In a great day of Rugby in Westfield, the UCRFC high school and youth teams rang up 4 wins in 5 matches. The UCRFC U19 Boys A-side rebounded from their loss to Xavier with a comprehensive league win over New York Rugby Club (NYRC) U19 Boys, 63-7. The "As" started strong as they scored within the first minute of the match when Pete Ondi ran 50 meters for an exhilarating try that Jorge Cuisana converted. Ondi went on to score two more ties and Cuisana added another conversion. Not to be out done, Pete's older brother, Joe, scored a hat trick to match his brother. Solo tries were scored by Joe Brady, Billy Hedley, Conner Londregan, Greg Mika and Jon Brucia. Brucia also added 2 conversions.
In the B-side match, the UCRFC B-side stormed to a 69-5 win. The "Bs" were led by Jake Zimmerman who scored 3 tries and a conversion for a total of 17 points. Jake Rabadeau scored 2 tries and a conversion for 12 points and Ryne Morrison scored 10 points with 5 conversions. Adam Smith, John Del Duca, Brian Mooney, Brett DeNicola, and Dan White each scored a try in the win.
The U19 Boys next travel to Katonah, NY to play Harvey School in an important league match.
The UCRFC U19 Girls gained their first win of the 2010 season with a 29-12 win over the NYRC U19 Girls. The Girls were led by Lucy Dawson who scored 2 tries and 2 conversions. Andrea Villanova scored 2 tries and Amelia Morabito added a single try. Next week the Girls travel to East Islip for another league match.
In the U5 boys match, the UCRFC U15 Boys beat Old Greenwich U15s, 19-10. The win reversed a loss from a week ago and represented a significant improvement for the U15s. Alex Hay lead the way with 3 tries as he scored from long range on scintillating runs. Matt Weissglass and Mike Dabulas added a conversion each. The U15s have a rematch with Xavier Freshmen at 5:30 PM on Thursday at Unami Park in Cranford.
In the only loss for the UCRFC on the day, the U13 Boys fell to a strong Old Greenwich U13 team, 38-0.
