WESTFIELD, NJ —  Despite the heat, it was estimated that more than 2,300 runners  participated in Downtown Westfield’s 15th annual 5K & Pizza Extravaganza Wednesday night,  organized by the Downtown Westfield Corporation. Thousands more came to watch the “Pizza Run” and enjoy the festivities.

“It looks like a great race again,” Downtown Westfield Executive Director Sherry Cronin said at the start of the run.

Before the race, a student from the Valencia School of Music sang the National Anthem.

Homeowners along the race route turned on sprinklers to help runners cool off.

Afterward, pizza, beverages and desserts were provided for runners by Westfield establishments and awards were given out. Everyone was able to enjoy a DJ and live music by Michael Craig Band & FOG.

The run is one of the largest non-corporate 5K races in the state.
