Thousands Expected to Attend Downtown Westfield’s ‘Pizza Run’ July 23

WESTFIELD, NJ — Runners are signing up now for the 13th Annual Downtown Westfield 5K & Pizza Extravaganza, also know as the “Pizza Run,” a yearly tradition of running, pizza, prizes and entertainment. The race will be held on July 23 beginning at 7 p.m.

More than 2,800 runners are expected to take part in the race itself, and thousands more spectators are expected to join the festivities. Pre-registration online is required to run. Visit PracticeHard.com to register. There are no online processing fees. Registration closes at midnight on July 21.

The race will be held on the USATF certified course. To see a course map, click here. Pizza and dessert will be provided for all registered runners. Entertainment for all will be by the Michael Craig Band & FOG. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the race.

Proceeds from the run will be earmarked for Downtown Westfield streetscape improvements, such as new street lights, sidewalks, crosswalks and landscaping.

“The event planning is going well, and we are looking forward to great event,” said Sherry Cronin, executive director of the Downtown Westfield Corporation (DWC).

According to the DWC, the Pizza Run would not be possible without the help of generous sponsors. For the fifth year in a row, Trinitas Regional Medical Center is the Platinum Sponsor. Trinitas Regional Medical Center staff will be on hand to share information about their award-winning hospital and lead the race.

Present at the event will also be Silver and Bronze Sponsors. Barnabas Health – Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Overlook Medical Center and Stop & Shop have returned as Silver Sponsors. City Sports & UBS will be new silver sponsors.  Advanced Wellness of Westfield, David Realty Group, Drew & Rogers, JAG Physical Therapy; Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper; Morgan Stanley, Summit Medical Group, Trenk DiPasquale, Westfield Pediatric Dental Group and Westfield Running Company will be returning Bronze Sponsors. AEPG Wealth Strategies, Anthony James Construction, Gallery U Boutique, Kessler Rehabilitation Center, PSE&G, and Westfield Braces (Thomas Burns, DMD, PA) will be new bronze sponsors for 2014. Stop & Shop is a co-sponsor of a new finish line banner and City Sports is sponsoring new barricade banners this year welcoming the runners to the finish line. 

Contributing sponsors this year include Spencer Savings Bank and The Office Beer Bar & Grill. State Farm Insurance Christine Cosenza Agency has signed up once again as a Supporting Sponsor.
