UNION, NJ — Westfield High School varsity wrestlers CJ Composto (106 pounds) and Luke Hoerle (113 pounds) took home Region IV titles Saturday.
“Going in, we thought they were both the best kids in their weight class,” head coach Glen Kurz said. “It was just a matter of their going out and performing; they certainly did that. They both wrestled well and were pretty dominant throughout the weekend. Neither of them was threatened or gave up an offensive point all weekend. While they were outstanding today, their region titles were the result of the hard work they put in over the course of the last year.”
Both wrestlers are sophomores.
“They both had great freshmen years, but neither was satisfied with the way their seasons ended last year,” Kurz said. “Since then, they've made it their mission to reach the high goals they've set for themselves. A region title is a great accomplishment, but I'm sure they both feel this is just another step toward reaching their ultimate goals.”
Composto and Hoerle advance to next weekend’s state championship tournament in Atlantic City.
