Union County Prosecutor’s Vehicle Involved in Crash After Carjacking on Route 22 Wednesday

UNION, NJ – The wild incidents that occurred Wednesday on Route 22 East began after 1 p.m. when a gunman, identified as Quadree Frazier, 35, was allegedly involved in a dispute with two woman at the Clinton Manor, a motel on Route 22 West, according to authorities. Frazier fired at one of the woman and she was shot in the chin and neck.

Police said Frazier was confronted by the motel manager upon fleeing the motel.  Frazier struck him in the head with his gun several times. The manager sustained a deep cut, requiring stitches.

Frazier then ran across Route 22 to the Target shopping center. Frazier approached a woman who had just gotten out of her car. Frazier allegedly revealed his gun, and the woman threw her keys to Frazier and fled. Frazier then drove the woman’s 2010 Lincoln MKZ down Route 22 East, police said.

Frazier then crashed into a pickup truck as it was traveling down Route 22, according to police, then continued driving and struck another car on Route 22, near Michigan Avenue. The struck car and the stolen Lincoln then crashed into a Jeep Cherokee parked in the parking lot of the Halloween Store.

The Jeep was driven by acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park, who had stopped to take a phone call. A county spokesman said Park was not injured and no further details are being released by the Prosecutor’s Office.

After hitting the Jeep, the Lincoln continued through the wall of the store.  Frazier exited the vehicle and was apprehended by police officers. The Lincoln caught fire and the Township of Union Fire Department responded.

Frazier was taken to University Hospital in Newark for a broken vertebrae in his neck and back, damaged ribs and a collapsed lung. Frazier remained in the hospital under police guard late today. The woman shot at the motel was also taken to University Hospital for her injuries.

Detectives continue to investigate the three crime scenes and piece together the entire chain of events.

Charges against Frazier are pending, but he will face charges of carjacking, weapons offenses and attempted murder. He has addresses in Newark and East Orange.

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
