CRANFORD, NJ – Approximately 200 participants walked in Saturday’s 18th Annual Union County Red Ribbon Drug Prevention Walk in Nomahegan Park.

The walk was coordinated by Prevention Links and Wellness Coalition of Union County and hosted by former Governor Jim McGreevey.

“We all know what’s happening in our communities and our nation” McGreevey said. “I would argue that this scourge is more pernicious, more evil than any war we have fought as a nation.”

The walk supports New Jersey’s first public Recovery High School, the Raymond J. Lesniak Experience, Strength, Hope Recovery High School.

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
