CLARK, NJ – The victim of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound was airlifted from the grounds of the Featherbed Lane School at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Police were called to the Woodcrest Apartments on Westfield Avenue to check on the welfare of a resident, Acting Police Chief Pedro Matos said.  Upon entering the apartment, officers found a 69-year-old male with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.  The man was transported to UMDNJ in Newark.

Mayor Sal Bonaccorso said he had seen the victim transferred to the helicopter and that EMS workers were “pumping the chest” of the victim.  According to Bonaccorso, the state police helicopter had already landed for the Valor Ride, an event that was taking place next door at the Deutscher Club.
