WESTFIELD, NJ — In honor of Earth Day, the town of Westfield is once again inviting individuals, families and groups to volunteer for its annual spring cleanup event at green spaces all over town on Saturday, April 25, with a rain date of April 26.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring a pair of gloves and a rake, if possible, and arrive at one of the following locations between 10 a.m. and noon, where a member of the town council or Green Team will coordinate clean-up activities: Brightwood Park, Gumbert Park (next to the basketball courts and along North Avenue), Grove Street at Grandview Avenue and Maryland Avenue at Grandview Avenue.
Volunteers may also help clean up and plant at Mindowaskin Park from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. with the Friends of Mindowaskin Park (FOMP). Volunteers for this park should meet at the bandstand. FOMP will provide bagels, coffee and juice.
“I am always so pleased to see both new and repeat volunteers at our events that benefit this very special property. Mindowaskin Park plays such an important role in our community,” said Debby Burslem, president of FOMP. “We look forward to the pond being dredged this coming winter and to see the shine being put back on this crown jewel of Westfield.”
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who need to fulfill community service requirements are welcome to participate at any location. Minors must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian.
Drop-ins are welcome, but advance registration is encouraged. To register, click here. For specific information about the Mindowaskin cleanup or FOMP, call 908-233-0028 or email email@example.com.
