Alexandra Vargas of Dunellen, a junior at The Wardlaw + Hartridge School in Edison, recently shared her wonderful experiences during last summer’s school service learning trip to Peru with fifth grade students. A great ambassador to the program, Alex showed her interest in learning more about other countries and cultures, and demonstrated authentic enthusiasm toward all the new things and people she met in the trip.

The video she prepared highlighted moments that left our fifth graders wanting to know more. They were particularly interested in Alex’s relationship with her homestay family, the food, the animals, and the school that W+H was helping to build in Peru. Among many other things, the students were astonished when they heard there was no wifi.

Alex walked them through the whole process she followed to apply to the program and all the activities she and her friends enjoyed in Peru, letting the fifth graders know this opportunity will be available for them soon as W+H students.
