On Sunday, Oct. 29, a group of 13 Upper School Students worked as a team to help two local refugee families that are supported by Interfaith RISE. Over the course of about an hour and a half, the students worked as a cohesive and efficient team to move a family out of an apartment, and then clean the apartment before the new refugee family arrived.
Students moved heavy furniture down a difficult stairwell, loaded a truck, and helped the family pack small items. As each room was emptied, they then transitioned over to cleaning duty. They vacuumed and swept floors, scrubbed kitchen and bathroom counters, and washed windows. It should be noted that all of this was done in the pouring rain.
The students who participated were: Mia Reyes of South Plainfield, Jordan Borst-Ortiz of Colonia, Dazlyn Erachshaw of Iselin, Kelly Lawrence of Scotch Plains, Victoria Howell of Piscataway, Stan DeLaurentiis of Plainfield, Judy Minnium of Scotch Plains, Camila Fang of Edison, Kenneth Shen of Edison, Sohum Thakker of Monroe, Neha Mandalapu of Warren, Silvia Xia of Iselin and Yash Pandey of Edison.
