After walking the halls and perusing display windows filled with outstanding art work, patrons sat and enjoyed a wonderful evening of music at the Upper School Spring Art Show and Concert at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison. Art teachers Gale Goldman and Tanda Tucker proudly showed off their students' work and music teachers Sharon Byrne and Rick Fontaine led the vocal and instrumental groups, respectively, to a stellar performance.
The MadJazz men opened the concert with two songs, including Lennon and McCartney’s Penny Lane. After three tunes played by the Concert Band, the MadJazz vocal ensemble and the Jazz Band followed with excellent selections. The Concert Choir mixed it up with a wonderful combination of songs, capped by Irving Berlin’s Blue Skies featuring a piano solo by William Rehwinkel of Scotch Plains.
The Saxophone Quartet, with Ray Huang of Edison, Suraj Chandran of Edison, Ovidio Chavez of Elizabeth and Stanislav DeLaurentiis of Plainfield, closed the night with two songs, including the show-stopping finale Bohemian Rhapsody.
