WESTFIELD, NJ — A warning from police in Delaware led to the arrest of an armed man on the grounds of Tamaques Elementary School in June. A Grand Jury indicted Thomas J. Wilkie, 46, on six criminal charges including possession of a handgun, 130 rounds of ammunition and a folding knife.

Dr. Derrick Nelson, the principal of Westfield High School, died following his donation of bone marrow to a boy in France. He was remembered for kindness, compassion and integrity.

Seven past priests who served at churches in Westfield were among those named by the Roman Catholic Church as having been “credibly accused” of sex abuse. The church released lists naming 188 priests in New Jersey amid an investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office.
