Westfield High School 9th grader, Tomas Taaffe, earned a perfect score on the National Latin Exam, according to an announcement by the University of Mary Washington, which administers the exam.
In a letter from the National Latin Exam Committee, it stated, “Only 929 students out of over 140,000 who participated in the entire United States, Taiwan, Canada, England, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Italy, Germany, Singapore, Spain, Greece, Puerto Rico, Japan, Portugal, Zimbabwe, France, Belgium, China, and South Korea attained this distinction.”
Tomas, who is in his first year of studying the Latin language and also received a Gold Medal for his accomplishment, commented, “I love how it connects to the English language today.”
