The Westfield Area Y kicked off its 2011 Strong Kids Campaign with a dinner featuring testimonials from financial assistance recipients. This year, 75 volunteers will be serving as campaigners, with a goal of raising $225,000 to provide direct financial assistance to those in need who live or work within Cranford, Garwood, Mountainside and Westfield and wish to participate in the Y’s asset-building programs, services and memberships.

In 2010, the Y provided $274,712 in direct financial assistance to 265 individuals in need within our community.  Approximately 86% of scholarships were awarded to area children for child care or summer day camp.

“I am raising my son on my own and have always worked full-time.  Without the Y, my son would not have the stability he needs and I wouldn’t be able to go on interviews.  I am very thankful,” states a 2010 Strong Kids Campaign Recipient who benefited from the financial assistance made available to her through this campaign.

The Westfield Area Y is a member agency of the Westfield United Fund and United Way of Greater Union County.  The United Way helps subsidize the Y’s youth, teen, senior and family programs.  The Strong Kids Campaign provides direct financial assistance.

A number of special fundraising events are hosted during April and May to benefit the Strong Kids Campaign.  Information regarding these events and the Strong Kids Campaign can be found on the Y website, www.westfieldynj.org.
