WESTFIELD, NJ – Among several policies, the Westfield Board of Education approved two school closure dates in the event of unused snow days Tuesday night.

If no snow days are used, Westfield public schools will close on Monday, April 17, following spring break and Friday, May 26, prior to Memorial Day Weekend.

If just one snow day is used, schools will stay open on May 26.

Superintendent Dr. Margaret Dolan also announced the retirement of eight Westfield school staff members:

  • David Tiffenbach, a paraprofessional at Franklin School for five years
  • Domenico Dario, a custodian for 13 years and head custodian Washington School for the past four years
  • Joanne Ply, Franklin School’s reading specialist for 17 years
  • David Davis, a French and TV production teacher at Westfield High School for 26 years
  • Teresa Squillace (27 years) and Barbara Leparulo (37 years), a team of Science teachers at Edison Intermediate School
  • Jean Brezinski, a choral music teacher and band director for 31 years across the district
  • Dr. Linda King, a fine arts teacher and former girls basketball coach at Westfield High School who has served as the district supervisor of fine arts since 1997

The Westfield school board will meet again on Tuesday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m.
