WESTFIELD, NJ — Downtown Westfield was knocked out of New Jersey Monthly’s bracket-style “Downtown Showdown” competition by Montclair in the first round, the magazine revealed on www.njmonthly.com Tuesday.
On Sept. 1, the publication began accepting votes in the online competition, which pitted 16 New Jersey downtowns against each other. The eight towns remaining for round two are Montclair, Hoboken, Princeton, Maplewood, Morristown, Red Bank, Somerville and Cape May.
“It was fun to be acknowledged as one of New Jersey Monthly’s favorite downtowns and it was fun to be part of the contest,” Mayor Andy Skibitsky said.
“Montclair is a beautiful town, but I’m a little biased and I think Westfield should demand a recount,” he said with a laugh.
As the contest continues, the field will be continue to be cut in half each week throughout the month of September. Voting ends at noon each Monday, with a new round starting each Tuesday until the championship round begins on Sept. 22.
