WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Fire Department received an $850 grant recently from FM Global, which will be used to buy a camera and accessories that the department can use for such things as inspections, training and fire investigations.
“The cameras that we’ve been using are really outdated,” said Lieutenant Michael Duelks, who applied for the grant after he learned about it during an inspector class.
FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers, has awarded millions of dollars in funding to fire departments and related agencies worldwide over the past 40 years.
FM Global representative John Antola presented the award to Duelks, Acting Mayor JoAnn Neylan, Town Administrator Jim Gildea, Fire Chief David Kelly and Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Tiller last week at the fire station downtown.
“We hope that the additional funding will help to strengthen your efforts to ultimately and more effectively prevent fire —the leading cause of property destruction worldwide,” FM Global's Michael Spaziani, manager of fire service programs, wrote in his acceptance letter.
