WESTFIELD, NJ — Firefighters put out a blaze in a second floor bedroom of a home on Marion Avenue Saturday night.

According to Battalion Chief James Ryan, Westfield firefighters were dispatched at 7:52 and were on the scene at 7:55 p.m.

The residents were out of the home when the firefighters arrived, he said, and a fire on the second floor bedroom was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Ryan said the fire is not considered suspicious.

It was a frigid night, with temperatures below 20 degrees.

A unit from Cranford was at the scene to assist while units from Linden, Roselle and Scotch Plains covered the town while the trucks were dispatched.

At about 9 p.m. firefighters were still on the scene, preparing to leave.
