WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School football player Owen Kessler has been tapped to play in the Phil Simms North-South All-Star Football Classic this summer as a defensive lineman.
The annual classic is New Jersey’s oldest high school all-star football game, according to organizers. Started by group of New Jersey high school coaches in 1979 to showcase state’s high school seniors' talent, it pits players from North Jersey against players from South Jersey.
Past Blue Devils to be chosen for the honor include Jack Curry, Willie Johnson, Joe Scaglione and Jack Simcox.
“I’m very excited for Owen,” head coach Jim DeSarno said of the 6’3” senior. “He’s had such a memorable career here at WHS — this will be a way for us to see him do his thing one more time before he heads off to Georgetown.”
This year’s contest will be held at Kean University on June 26 at 7 p.m.
