WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School junior Emma Escaldi is working toward her Girl Scout Gold Award by creating a pollinator garden designed to attract bees in Mindowaskin Park. Her project was approved by the town council at its most recent conference meeting.
The plants that she plans to put in are low-maintenance, Escaldi explained to the council.
“I was hoping to create a watering schedule with the help of my friends and family to ensure that the garden will remain after I graduate high school,” she said.
She’s also enlisting the help of friends, family and her Girl Scout Troop to plant the garden.
The Girl Scout Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, according to the Girl Scouts, recognizing girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through remarkable Take Action projects that have sustainable impact in their communities and beyond.
