More than $2,600 in donations was collected at Roosevelt Intermediate School (RIS) during a spaghetti dinner held on April 28 in the school’s cafeteria. Approximately 150 guests attended in support of the RIS chapter of Girls Learn International’s (GLI) partner charity, Challenging Heights – an organization in Ghana that is dedicated to ending forced labor and child trafficking.
The RIS cafeteria was transformed into an Italian café, where people came to socialize, listen to music and dine. The event featured Roosevelt’s own Jazz Band and the Jazz Ensemble from Westfield High School. GLI members and dinner volunteers in 6th, 7th and 8th grade gathered following the event along with advisers Andrea Poppiti, Dominick Ceccio and Karen Lust.
