WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield's 2018 graduation ceremony will take place at Kehler Stadium after all, if the weather allows, according to the school board.

“Good news for the graduating class. As recently announced by Westfield High School Principal Dr. Derrick Nelson, the commencement ceremony for graduating seniors has been moved to Kehler Stadium,” Board of Education Vice President Peggy Oster announced at Tuesday's school board meeting.

The 2018 graduation ceremony was originally planned for another location due to renovations at Kehler Stadium that were schedule to begin on May 8. However, due to a lawsuit brought against the district, renovations are currently on hold.

“We do not yet have a decision from the appellate division about the appellate court case, the Kehler Field case,” said Board of Education President Gretchan Ohlig. “Because of the timeline we were then able to move graduation but, more importantly, we don’t know when we are going to have a decision about Kehler Field.”

The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Westfield High School Gymnasium.
