WESTFIELD, NJ — Two senior football players and four cheerleaders from Westfield High School were selected recently to participate in this summer’s 2016 Snapple Bowl. The all-star game pits teams from Middlesex and Union Counties against one another for a chance to play the game they love before college.
Players Brett Robertshaw and Tom Morley were chosen because of their performances not just this season but over their three-year careers on the varsity level, according to head coach James DeSarno.
“Both were three-year starters and leaders for our team. It will be fun to see them play one more high school game,” DeSarno said.
In the fall, Robertshaw plans to continue playing football at Wesleyan College, DeSarno said, while Morley will attend Union County College in preparation to become a firefighter.
“It’s an honor to have players chosen for all-star games and these two guys represent what we’re all about,” DeSarno said.
Cheerleaders Samantha Smith (who graduates in June), Maria Gerckens, Drew Ferriss and Katie Clark will represent WHS at the game, as well.
All proceeds from the Snapple Bowl will benefit the Children’s Specialized Hospital. The game is scheduled for July 21 at Woodbridge High School.
