WESTFIELD,NJ - The Westfield High School Gymnastics Team, which won the North 2 Sectional title and finished third in the state, was honored and awarded certificates at the Board of Education Meeting on Feb. 11.

“We worked really hard,” said senior Abby Cook, one of the three 2013 team captains. “Not just this year, but for the four past for years.”

It had been six years since the gymnastics team won the North 2 Sectional title, and what they had strived for ever since.

“I’ve never seen a group of girls work harder and want more,” said Head Coach Melissa Greenwald. She cited Bishop Ahr High School, who had entered their division several years back, as being Westfield’s main competition for the title.

Greenwald, who has held the position of head coach for the past 14 years, announced that her assistant coach and former team member Amanda Diaz will take over her position this upcoming season because Greenwald is retiring.

“We had a really awesome season,” said senior Christana Psyhojos, a team captain.
