WESTFIELD, NJ — Niche.com, a national educational research and rankings firm, released its 2016 Best High School Sports rankings Tuesday. Westfield High School was ranked no. 92 in New Jersey.
According to Niche’s methodology, rankings are comprised of parent/student surveys (45 percent), total number of athletic offerings (20 percent), male and female participants (15 percent each) and district costs per student (5 percent). The results for this year’s rankings came from data submitted following the 2013-14 school year.
"The criteria of the rankings have nothing to do with the documented success within the athletic department at Westfield High School,” Westfield Athletic Director Sandra Mamary responded. “We are very happy with the performance of our student-athletes, teams and coaches at WHS.”
She added, “According to NJ.com, during the fall 2015 season, seven out of nine programs were ranked in the top 20.”
Niche.com ranked Summit High School no. 1. To read the entire list and see the full methodology, click here.
