Five Westfield High School students were awarded Honorable Mention in Moody’s Math Mega Challenge.  They include (l-r):  11th graders Lucia Liu and Matthew Luppino, and 12th graders Andres Chang, Jennifer Amador and Lily Burtness.  A total of 6,000 students competed in the Challenge. After advancing to the second level of the competition where the top 175 papers were accepted for consideration, 43 teams were presented the award of Honorable Mention.  The Westfield High School team, whose paper was 20 pages in length, will split a $1,000 prize amongst themselves. Their paper included researching a problem on quantifying waste, coming up with a viable solution for US cities to recycle waste, presenting the solution with supporting data and a bibliography, and recommending guidelines for nationwide recycling standards.
