WESTFIELD, NJ — Homeowners on Downer Street got down with the contest last year, winning two of the top three spots in the town’s inaugural “Haunt Your House” home decorating contest.
And the competition is back again this year.
The contest open to all Westfield residents encourages the public to help kick off AddamsFest by registering their homes online, the town announced. Registration is open until Oct. 4. The first 13 people to register will receive early access to online ticketing for the AddamsFest beer garden, known as “Charlie’s Ale Garden,” officials said.
“Haunt Your House was a tremendous success last year, with more than 20 amazing entries throughout town,” said Councilwoman Dawn Mackey, chairperson of AddamsFest, in the release.
“We received so much wonderful feedback about the driving map of the entries and the online voting booth, both of which will be back this year. We can’t wait to see the homes around town showcase their funny, scary or entertaining spirits.”
If last year’s contest is any indication, the decorating is anticipated to be elaborate.
The third place winner of last year’s contest with a home on Downer Street had an enormous dinosaur skeleton on the lawn, skulls topping fencing around the yard and mock spider webs affixed to a tree.
The contest’s first place winner had “boards” and fake spiders placed over windows and the front door. A sign read “Beware Spiders”
