WESTFIELD, NJ — The town of Westfield has several permanent crossing guard posts available, as well as substitute positions, according to the town's public information officer, Kim Forde.
“Our crossing guards are extremely valuable assets to the town,” Forde said. “They play a significant role in public safety during the busy school opening and closing times each day throughout Westfield.”
Starting pay is $18.20 per hour. Most permanent posts are 1.5 hours a day.
According to the town, applicants must: Be of good moral character; be able to stand unassisted for approximately one hour; be able to safely direct and escort pedestrians across streets, which may include the stopping of vehicle traffic; and possess the ability to communicate effectively with others as well as interact with the public in a positive manner.
