WESTFIELD, NJ – Music lovers enjoyed the summer season’s first evening of Downtown Westfield's Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival Tuesday night. Quimby Street was closed to traffic for the kickoff celebration with street and sidewalk dining, seating for the New Jersey Festival Orchestra's big band performance and games and chalk for the kids.
Patricia Hanigan of Patricia & Paul and chair of the Downtown Westfield Corporation was among those in attendance.
“This is just a wonderful opportunity for the community,” Hanigan said. “I love these events. Closing down Quimby Street provides a great meeting place for everyone to come together.”
She added, “The DWC wants to do more of these kinds of events to give people a place to come together and to provide a reason for those who don’t live in Westfield to see what our town is about.”
Fellow business owner Leilah Robinson of Kika Stretch Studios in Downtown Westfield shared similar sentiments.
“This is all a lot of fun; we love the music,” Robinson said. “As business owners here, these events are really great for us to see.”
The Sweet Sounds Downtown Jazz Festival continues with free performances every Tuesday night in July and August. Rain dates are Wednesdays. For a full list of scheduled performances, click here.
