WESTFIELD, NJ — More than 25 children signed up for a free rock-painting party Tuesday night at Learning Express in Downtown Westfield where they created “spirit rocks” to keep or hide around town for people to find.

“It was awesome,” said Meaghan Murphy, Westfield’s chief spirit officer and the brains behind Westfield’s “Bestfield” initiative to make Westfield the best town it can be.

“The whole idea of it is to paint the rock with something special that brings joy or makes you smile,” Murphy told the children. “And then you can bring it home or you can hide it somewhere to share.”

She encourages adults to share photos of the rocks on social media with the tag #Bestfield.

Murphy plans to organize more parties like this to bring out positive energy in the community.

On Aug. 8 at 7 p.m., Murphy will lead a Spirit Squad meeting at the municipal building before that night's town council meeting.  Anyone interested in discussing ways to boost business and inspire community in town is invited to join, she said.
