WESTFIELD, NJ — In an update on the town’s website, www.westfieldnj.gov, Mayor Shelley Brindle said that, as of of 8 p.m. Sunday night, there are about 100 homes in Westfield without power. PSEG predicts will all be restored overnight Sunday, she wrote.
“Of the 21 roads that were originally closed, all have reopened except for five which remain closed due to downed wires,” Brindle wrote. “PSEG is working through the night to get them reopened. Rahway Ave between Shackamaxon and Shadowlawn remains closed and PSEG is aware that it is near the high school and Edison and they are doing everything they can to get it reopened by morning.”
The town will send an alert via Nixle in the event that the road is not open Monday morning, Brindle wrote, and she recommended that affected residents allow for extra travel time.
“Police will be present to ensure that cars and pedestrians take the proper detours to remain safe,” she wrote. “With the emphasis on Rahway Ave, it is unlikely that Clifton Ave and Stevens Ave will be reopened in the morning. Please allow for extra time as necessary.”
She added, “Many thanks to our DPW crews who did an amazing job of getting the roads cleared in short order, and thanks to all of you for your continued patience.”
