The Westfield Memorial Library is pleased to announce that, beginning Feb. 10, patrons will be able to purchase bookplates that can be affixed to their children’s favorite library books. The bookplates, which are a fundraising project of the Westfield Memorial Library Foundation (WMLF), are designed by local artist Linnea Rhodes.

All of the bookplates represent a season because as the bookplates proclaim, “It’s always the season for reading!” They cost $10 each, or are three for $25. Children can choose their favorite library book and then bring it to the staff of the Circulation Desk, who will write the child’s name in the book. Anyone who visits the Children’s Desk can also pick up a bookmark with the same artwork, and view a donated piece of artwork representing the alphabet, also by Ms. Rhodes.

President of the Foundation Amanda Conley Ayers said, “We really wanted to start an ongoing project that engages and celebrates the Westfield Memorial Library’s youngest and most voracious readers. As parents ourselves, the WMLF board understands that the library is an incredible asset to our children as well as the community at large. These bookplates are not just a way to engage young readers in the experience of reading, but also a way for parents and caretakers to create lasting memories with our children in this very special place.”

The Westfield Memorial Library Foundation hopes this project will not only raise funds but also increase awareness about their mission, which is to work in conjunction with the library to raise funds that will help support the long-term development of the building and its programs. It is the goal of the Foundation to help ensure the library’s role as a center for learning, cultural enrichment, relaxation and fun for many generations to come.

The Foundation utilizes a variety of fund-raising strategies including individual and corporate donations, fundraising events, long-term capital campaigns and legacy giving. The Foundation stands ready to assist the Library with large projects such as building or renovation campaigns; also with funding for programs and services that may be jeopardized because of increased pressure on local and state budgets.

All donations to the Foundation are tax deductible. For more information, visit the Westfield Memorial Library Foundation Facebook page or visit them on the web at, or call 908-248-4542.
