A resident of the 500 block of Cumberland Street reported that on March 29 between 10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. an unknown person(s) stole a small garden flag from his front lawn. The flag was described as a red, blue and yellow flag honoring first responders. Owner estimated value of the stolen property is $20.
3/29/2021 at 6:05 p.m. — Fraud, Identity Theft
A resident of 300 block Central Avenue reported being a victim of identity theft and fraud. The victim stated that after reviewing his credit report he discovered that unknown suspect(s) opened a cable service account in his name in Louisiana, with an outstanding balance of $1,727.29. A second account was also opened under his name at unknown location. Lastly, an income tax return was filed in Alabama under victim's social security number.
3/29/2021 at 7:02 p.m. — DWI
Thomas D. Crain, 68, of Westfield, was arrested in the 100 block of Elm Street for driving while intoxicated, N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, pursuant to a call for service regarding an intoxicated male entering his vehicle and attempting to drive away in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of Elm Street. He was issued a motor vehicle summons with a mandatory Westfield Municipal Court date of April 6 at 9 a.m.
3/30/2021 3:37 p.m. — Fraud
A resident of the 500 block of Hillside Avenue reported being a victim of credit card fraud. Victim stated that on February 24, 2021 an unknown suspect(s) made several unauthorized credit card purchases at Target department stores located throughout Union County. Furthermore, suspect(s) also made two unauthorized cash advance transactions from a location in East Orange. The total estimated loss resulting from these fraudulent credit card transactions is $2,552.06.
3/31/2021 at 9:57 a.m. — Warrant Arrest
Gerard R. Yatcilla, 56, of Westfield, was arrested on the strength of Newark Municipal Court traffic warrant in the amount of $69 pursuant to an investigation in the 700 block of Central Avenue. Subject was processed at the scene and released on his own recognizance pending an appearance at the Newark Municipal Court.
3/31/2021 at 3:37 p.m. — Found Property
An employee of the Town of Westfield reported that she found a visa gift card on the ground outside the Town of Westfield Municipal Building. Gift card was surrendered to the Westfield Police Department, and it was secured for safekeeping. The Westfield Police Department is attempting to locate the owner of this found property.
3/31/2021 at 4:01 p.m. — Fraud, Identity Theft
A resident of the 800 block of Forest Avenue reported being a victim of identity theft and fraud. Victim stated that unknown persons used her identity to apply for unemployment benefits. She was alerted to this fraudulent activity when she received a notice of approval from the New Jersey Labor Department.
4/2/2021 at 5:11 p.m. — Shoplifting
An employee of an establishment in the 1100 block of South Avenue West reported a shoplifting that occurred. Unknown actor entered the establishment, proceeded to shoplift numerous health and personal hygiene products and left the establishment without paying. The estimated amount of the value of the merchandise was $491.67.
