At about 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, police patrolling for motor vehicle burglaries saw several vehicles on Codding Road with their interior dome lights on, indicating that a door was either open or ajar, according to police. Up close, they could see the glove compartments and center consoles of several vehicles open with their contents strewn about, police said.

Cops soon found Defazio on the 500 block of Edgar Road dressed in all black holding a flashlight and attempting to enter a garage by pulling on the door, police said. Defazio refused to comply with police, fleeing on foot and continuing to resist arrest, police said.

Police said that there are more charges to follow pending further investigation, and that Defazio has been linked to numerous other motor vehicle burglaries in the area.

The Westfield Police Department said it recovered proceeds from these motor vehicle burglaries and it encourages resident to call the police if they believe they may have been a victim to a one that they have not yet reported.
