WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Police Officers Elizabeth Savnik, Billy Kleeman and Aaron Doherty rode in the Police Unity Tour earlier this month with members of the Cranford Police Department.

More than a thousand officers in all biked from Florham Park to Washington, DC, in the tour, which honors fallen officers and raises money for the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum. Each officer had to raise $1,850 to participate.

The event took a tragic turn when retired Roxbury Police Lt. Joseph Franklin was fatally injured in a bicycle accident on the tour. Despite their sadness, the local officers pressed on.

“The tour has to be the most rewarding and cherishing experience I've gotten to do in my life,” Savnik said. “ I am so grateful I got to participate in such an incredible blue family event, it was and will always be the best part of my career — helping other officers and their families in a time of need.”
