WESTFIELD, NJ—The streets and shops of Westfield are filled with people making emergency preparations this morning, whether it’s picking up groceries, stocking up on batteries or filling their cars with gasoline.

Gas stations are doing brisk business as wet snow falls over the town, though the lines seen earlier this morning have mostly disappeared.

Westfield is already seeing some power outages, and neighbors told TAP that Westfield High School temporarily lost electricity this morning for about an hour.

The town asks that residents with fire hydrants on their property clear snow away from the hydrants so that they can be located in an emergency.

Residents are urged to sign up to receive emergency messages on their mobile phones from the Westfield Police Department via Nixle by texting 07090 to 888777 or by  visiting Nixle.com.
