On Sept. 12, members of the Westfield Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution met with Westfield Mayor Andy Skibitsky as he signed a proclamation declaring September 17 to 23 as Constitution Week. The Constitution was adopted by the American Congress of The Confederation on Sept. 17, 1787.

The NSDAR (National Society of the DAR) was responsible for the annual designation of Sept 17-23 as Constitution Week. They made a resolution for this week which was adopted April 21, 1955 and signed into Public Law 915 on August 2, 1956.

The goal of the NSDAR is to encourage education about the Constitution, its founders and its importance as the foundation of our liberties and freedoms.
