Westfield Resident Raises Money, Awareness for Children’s Specialized Hospital at Train Station

Philip Michel will be at the train station from 6:45 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Monday with donor cards available for $5 apiece.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Philip Michel hopes commuters will stop for a moment Monday morning to hear about Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Walk & Roll event May 17, which he plans to participate in. The Westfield resident will be at the train station from 6:45 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with donor cards available for $5 apiece.

Michel said he was moved to fundraise for the hospital because of the great amount of good it does as a residence for children with long-term medical needs, for children who need physical therapy and for the families of children with special needs.

Michel is especially impressed with the hospital’s ability to meet the current needs of society, he said.

“They’re forever changing and adapting,” he explained, from treating polio patients in the past to working with the growing number of children diagnosed with autism today, for example.

If Michel looks familiar to train riders, it’s because he’s fundraised there before—three times for an annual MS bike ride and once last year for Children’s Specialized.

“Westfield’s a great town,” said Michel. “People see me doing this and thank me, and it encourages me to do it again.”
