WESTFIELD, NJ — Entries in Westfield’s Third Annual Gingerbread Building Contest will be on display soon in windows throughout Downtown Westfield. Prizes this year will be bigger and better than ever, according to Councilwoman Dawn Mackey, who organized the contest.
To enter, register online before Nov. 25 at www.Westfieldnj.gov/gingerbread, then drop off your creation at Savory Spice Shop at 138 E. Broad St between Nov. 30 and Dec. 3 to be displayed downtown.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for a family activity that will also provide a safe holiday tradition that all of our residents can enjoy,” Mackey said. “It will also give them another reason to come support our downtown during this vital season during an unprecedented year.”
Anyone can enter the contest, Mackey said.
Categories are: Kids Only Effort (14 years old and younger); Best in Show; Westfield 300 (in honor of Westfield’s 300th anniversary this year); and Iconic Building. Entries should be made of edible materials and no bigger than 2' x 2'.
“We’re excited to see the new designs and what people come up with for the Westfield 300 category,” Mackey said.
Past winners have included replicas of the Westfield Train Station, the Rialto Theatre and the Lincoln School Playground.
Members of the community will be able to vote online at www.Westfieldnj.gov/gingerbread. Winners will be announced New Year’s Day. In addition to prizes, each winner will receive a trophy, Mackey said.
