Westfield High School’s auditorium was filled to capacity during two morning sessions on May 15 as students and teachers attended a presentation on fostering skills to create healthy coping mechanisms against stress, bullying behavior, alcohol and other drug use.
“Getting High Naturally,” a positive, science-based approach to substance abuse prevention was the title of the program delivered to students during the day and to parents in the evening by Matt Bellace, Ph.D. Organizers of the visit (seated) are Louise DeDea, Westfield parent and member of the Municipal Alliance; WHS student and Dream Team member, Sarah Slavin; and WHS Health educator, Sue Kolesar. Dr. Bellace emphasized the importance of effective communication, mindfulness meditation and healthy activities to improve the quality of life for parents, educators and teens.
