WESTFIELD, NJ — A town resident and 2019 Westfield High School graduate has seen a major growth in his social media following recently.
Devin Caherly has over 1.3 million followers on TikTok. Caherly posted his first video last July and it reached nearly 11,000 views. After posting seven videos that week, his eighth video currently has over 6.6 million views.
“Some of my friends from other towns actually follow him, and a couple of them have even duetted his videos,” said Lindsay Sherman, a senior at Westfield High School. “I think it’s really cool, but also strange watching his videos while thinking about how I’ve seen him in school.”
Caherly is filming and posting point of view, or POV, videos of himself doing skits about different topics.
“I always liked acting and being in the spotlight, and these POV videos allow me to express my thoughts and feelings,” he said. “When I started, I had one goal, which was to blow up. I slowly started posting POVs in April and went viral, so I continued making them.”
These videos have risen him to his current level of fame. In just over 1,200 videos, Caherly has almost 50 million likes. He also has 108,000 followers on Instagram.
Caherly can be found on Cameo, a site where fans can pay for celebrities to send them personalized video messages.
“I love every one of my supporters. I enjoy seeing people motivated by my content and being able to inspire millions of people really makes me happy,” Caherly said. “It’s rewarding knowing that I impact people in a way where they enjoy seeing my content so much that they repost it.”
Earlier this week, Caherly introduced his new merchandise collection of shirts, sweatshirts and phone cases.
His store on Teespring offers his “Devin Caherly” logo, but also showcases his new “POV King” logo.
Caherly recently finished his freshman year at University of Arizona, majoring in entrepreneurship.
Michael Siroty is a freshman at Westfield High School participating in a journalism program with TAPinto Westfield.
