WESTFIELD, NJ — Mayor Andy Skibitsky welcomed Westfield’s new chief financial officer, Scott Olsen, at Tuesday’s town council meeting after the council approved a resolution officially appointing him to the position.
“Scott brings high qualifications and great experience to the job,” Town Administrator Jim Gildea told the council at conference meeting earlier in the evening.
“I appreciate the opportunity to join a fantastic team and I’m looking forward to it,” said Olsen, who began work on Monday.
The council also approved resolutions to award contracts for road improvements — town-wide thermoplastic striping and improvement of Lawrence Avenue. Much of the work on Lawrence Avenue will be paid for with $190,000 from the state, as well as a $95,000 grant from Union County, Gildea said. Work is expected to begin later this month.
At the conference meeting, Councilman Frank Arena, chairman of the public works committee, apprised the council of changes happening at the department of public works, including the upcoming re-branding of the DPW (including new uniforms and the painting of vehicles with a new logo), a new management structure at the department, new equipment and planting of trees around town.
Mayor Skibitsky said that he has heard lots of positive comments from residents, merchants and others about DPW Director Greg O'Neil.
“Kudos to the DPW and Greg,” Arena said.
