WESTFIELD, NJ — Tara Rowley was officially sworn in as the Municipal Clerk of Westfield at Tuesday evening’s town council meeting.

“Westfield is a great town. I’ve lived near by for nearly 26 years and I’m very excited to be here,” Rowley said after being sworn in by Mayor Andy Skibitsky.

Rowley has served in municipal government for more than 20 years. Most recently, she served as the Township Clerk in Cranford.

Rowley assumed the clerk role immediately after her appointment, as this was the final meeting for retiring Town Clerk Claire Gray, who has served in that position since 2005.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky presented Gray with a proclamation that highlighted her many years of service.

“Claire’s been a very valuable member of our staff for many years. So, Claire, we are going to miss you,” Skibitsky said. “I wish you good luck on your retirement.”

“Well, I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to serve as Westfield’s town clerk. I’ve tried to be a resource to whoever came to the clerk’s office and I’ve met so many wonderful people over the years — residents and employees,” said a tearful Gray during her farewell speech. “I’m looking forward to retirement, but it is sad. I feel good knowing that I am leaving you in such capable hands as Tara’s.”
