WESTFIELD, NJ — In a final vote, Westfield’s town council voted unanimously in favor of changing the “no overnight parking” rule in the lot on the south side of the train station Tuesday night.
Previously, the ordinance prohibited parking in that lot after 1 a.m. without a permit, even though the last train arrives at 1:50 a.m. The change makes that lot consistent with other lots on the North side of the train station downtown that already allowed parking until 2 a.m.
The public safety, transportation and parking committee recommended the change to the council after a resident brought up the discrepancy.
“This came about because we had a resident contact us,” Councilman Keith Loughlin, chair of the public safety, transportation and parking committee said at previous meeting, “so I encourage residents to continue to contact their respective council members with their suggestions and ideas.”
Councilman Doug Stokes was absent from Tuesday’s meeting.
