WESTFIELD, NJ — At its regular meeting Tuesday night, Westfield’s town council passed a resolution declaring Friday, Sept. 19, “POW/MIA Remembrance Day.”

Westfield is among the many Union County towns that passes a resolution like this annually. A ceremony will be held in front of the Union County Courthouse, 2 Broad Street, in Elizabeth on Friday at 11:15 a.m.

During its conference session earlier that evening, the council discussed replacing a street light at East Broad Street and Elm Street with a newer one that should increase pedestrian safety. A resolution passed at the regular meeting authorizing town officials to sign an agreement to implement Union County’s Local Safety Program will help make that possible.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky was absent from the meeting.
