WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield's town council voted unanimously in favor of changing the “no overnight parking” rule in the lot on the south side of the train station Tuesday night.
Currently, the ordinance prohibits parking in that lot after 1 a.m. without a permit, even though the last train arrives at 1:50 a.m. The change would make that lot consistent with lots on the North side of the train station downtown, which already allow parking until 2 a.m.
The council must approve the change in a second vote before it can take effect.
The public safety, transportation and parking committee recommended the change to the council after a resident brought up the discrepancy.
“This came about because we had a resident contact us,” Councilman Keith Loughlin, chair of the public safety, transportation and parking committee said at previous meeting, “so I encourage residents to continue to contact their respective council members with their suggestions and ideas.”
Mayor Andy Skibitsky and Councilman Frank Arena were absent from Tuesday’s meeting.
