WESTFIELD, NJ — The National Weather Service warned people in the area to get inside immediately and stay away from windows as a severe thunderstorm passed through Thursday afternoon. Westfield was under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4:30 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, the situation was dangerous.

“This storm is producing widespread wind damage across Northeast NJ,” the service announced on its website, www.weather.gov. “Seek shelter now from inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows!”
