WESTFIELD, NJ — The New Jersey Festival Orchestra is asking supporters to vote in the JerseyArts.com People's Choice Awards, an online contest that ends Feb. 11. The Westfield-based orchestra has been nominated for favorite symphony/orchestra by its peers through the Jersey Arts Marketers network, which is made up of hundreds of nonprofit arts groups across the state.
To vote, visit njfestivalorchestra.org by Feb. 11. Only one vote per e-mail address is allowed.
Formerly known as the Westfield Symphony, the professional orchestra has been expanding its reach, playing in more venues throughout the region while maintaining its home base in Westfield. The NJFO has performed at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, PNC Arts Center, Drew University in Madison, Monroe County and Bergen County, as well as performances at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The orchestra sponsors educational and music therapy programs throughout the state and often works with local students, as it did for its recent sold-out “Home for the Holidays” concert.
"We at NJFO are thrilled to be nominated as New Jersey’s favorite orchestra once again,” Music Director David Wroe said. “We are honored to be recognized by our colleagues and to be part of such a vibrant arts community. We hope that our wonderful patrons will also support us by voting for us in this year’s awards."
Voters have an opportunity to cast votes in up to 16 arts categories. "Symphony/orchestra" is the seventh on the list.
People's Choice Award winners will be announced on March 5 and will be honored at the New Jersey Conference on Tourism in Atlantic City that day.
The NJFO’s next performance, Puccini’s “La Boheme,” presented semi-staged, in costume and featuring international guest soloists, will take place on Saturday, March 5, at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
