WESTFIELD, NJ — It was fate that R Studio Lash Spa opened in Westfield, according to Owner and Creative Stylist Regina Smith. Her husband, the studio’s business manager Allen Smith, Jr., grew up in Westfield and they often spend time visiting family here. Smith said she always knew Downtown Westfield was a great place to have a business.

So far, she’s been right. Since its soft opening in April, the response has been “overwhelming. It’s been great,” said Smith.

With an extensive background in beauty, Smith offers clients at her independent studio a wide range of services, including brow shaping, threading, airbrush makeup application, customized makeup foundations and bridal services. But the biggest draw, as the name suggests, is eyelash extensions.

“It’s the buzz around the nation right now. People are looking for a way to simplify their makeup routine,” said Smith. “The lashes are an instant eyelift. Your eyebrows and your lashes frame your entire face—it’s the first point of contact when you’re speaking with someone.”

It takes Smith about 90 minutes to apply a full set of eyelash extensions, which includes bottom lashes secured by an eye gel pad and individual extensions to each of the top lashes.

“The typical client has 80 to 100 lashes per eye,” said Smith. The entire time, the client relaxes on a massage table in the spa’s serene setting.

The results can last five to six weeks or, if the client comes in for touchups every two to three weeks, indefinitely, according to Smith. Prices range from $250 for a full set of synthetic lashes to $350 for silk and $400 for mink. Partial sets are also available, starting at $150 for synthetic lashes.

Smith even sells specially designed mascara that can be used with lash extensions to enhance the effect further as part of her selection of beauty products.

R Studio Lash Spa is located at 100 Quimby Street, Suite 3. For more information or to book an appointment, visit rstudiolashspa.com.

2018 Municipal Budget is on Collision Course with Principles of Financial Soundness & Stability

April 18, 2018

Having chaired the town council’s finance committee in the recent past, I appreciate the hard work that goes into developing a municipal budget for a town as large and dynamic as Westfield. But as I have expressed publicly and also to the mayor and my council colleagues, I do not support the adoption of Westfield’s 2018 municipal budget. Although the budget contains much that I ...

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.

Fear of Rising Rates? Remember The Reason You Own Bonds

If the current interest environment has you concerned about your bond portfolio, remember why you are investing in bonds.  The role bonds, or fixed income, play in a portfolio is not solely based on performance.  Bonds are used to offer stability, particularly when stock market volatility is rising. Rate hikes can dampen bond performance, but keep perspective on how rising rates impact ...
