SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Westfield High School basketball and field hockey player Shannon Devitt represented the Lady Blue Devils Sunday as one of several New Jersey student athletes to be honored during an NJSIAA-sponsored awards luncheon for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

Hosted by Seton Hall University, the event celebrated scholastic and collegiate athletic achievements from across the state. As part of the event, Devitt was also given complimentary tickets to the Seton Hall girls’ basketball game that afternoon.

Devitt, a senior forward and co-captain, is currently in her fourth year on the varsity basketball team at Westfield High School. Head coach Liz McKeon said that Devitt has been one of the key components to the team’s success so far this year.

As a field hockey player, this fall Devitt helped lead WHS to its first conference championship in more than 30 years.

“I see Shannon being very successful on and off the court when she goes to college next year,” McKeon said.
